MacuSight is a privately held pharmaceutical company focused on developing proprietary ocular formulations of mTOR inhibitors, including sirolimus (rapamycin), for minimally invasive, sustained, local administration to treat a number of major sight-threatening diseases.
The company is advancing Perceiva, its proprietary ocular sirolimus product, in a broad Phase 2 clinical program across multiple large ocular indications including diabetic macular edema (DME), wet age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD), uveitis and dry age-related macular degeneration (dry AMD). Additionally, as part of this Phase 2 program, the company is using Perceiva to evaluate the potential role for sirolimus in the treatment of dry eye syndrome (DES).
- Data from broad Phase 2 Perceiva clinical program spanning five major ophthalmic markets available in first half of 2010
- mTOR inhibitors, including sirolimus, inhibit a key intra-cellular point of convergence for multiple pathways implicated in many serious ocular diseases
- Two positive Phase 1 trials in 80 DME and wet AMD patients demonstrating key functional and anatomical improvements, as well as robust safety
- More than 500 patients across five major ocular indications will have been treated with Perceiva prior to Phase 3 trials
- Perceiva, administered via subconjunctival injection, provides sustained tissue levels, allowing for reduced administration frequency
- Major license agreement for Asian markets with Santen Pharmaceuticals: $50M upfront payment based on Phase 1 data and significant milestones and royalties
